Too Many

Too many,
Too many of them.
Just when you’ve heard one,
There are two or six or more,
And then
Your head is in a vice
And they’re cranking it tight.
There’s too many of them tonight!

There are too many,
Too many, don’t you see!
All telling the same story
Most unfortunately.
They shove it in your face
Until there’s nothing left to say.
There’s just too many of them today.

And then they’re back
The lot of them
Most everywhere you turn.
A handful here, a truckload there.
Oh, will they ever learn?
Just too many!
God, look at them all!

Hairy little monsters!
Big one’s and small.
Too many to count,
They’re on every wall!
Crawling like maggots,
Or rather slither. What a sight!
There’s just too many of them tonight!

Think I’ll go now,
Get as far away from here
As the east is from the west,
But just not quite as near!
No, I won’t hide-
You cannot hide from such as these
You can’t hide from death or taxes even if you please!

So I’ll muddle up an iron chin
And lock and load and fight.
For there’s just too many of them tonight.
